Talking Carlisle United

About Me

Introduction to the site

Hello fellow Carlisle fans!

Welcome to Talking Carlisle, your number 1 place for your fix of Carlisle United news.

My name is Alfie and I am a second year Journalism, Media and Culture student studying at Newcastle University. This blog will be dedicated to the pride of Cumbria, Carlisle United.

My journey with the Blues started at the age of 7. I remember my first game being a 1-0 home defeat to Charlton Athletic in April 2012, with Charlton also sealing promotion on that day. This was an early indication of what to expect as a fan of the club. Relegation followed in 2015 and then what followed was an awful 8 year stint in League Two, which albeit was flickered with a few high points, including a trip to Anfield in the League Cup and a few near misses at promotion. Yet, all our fortunes changed when Paul Simpson entered the building for the second time in early 2022. He firstly saved us from relegation out of the Football League and then the season that followed can only be described as the greatest season of football that I have ever witnessed, culminating in promotion at Wembley in May.

I can remember thinking to myself when Keith Millen was in charge that, I wouldn’t even bother coming back for that many games from uni, but Simmo had me spending my student finance on watching the boys fight for promotion. I remember a stint towards the end of the season, where I was repeatedly getting up at 7am every Saturday at my flat in Newcastle, just so that I could be in the pub with my mates at 11 before the 3 o’clock kickoff. That is how much of a grip this club has on me and I’m sure it has the same grip on you too.

I am hoping to provide match day coverage, interviews with those closely connected to the club, as well as what the most important people involved with the club think, the fans. There might be a few pieces about my experiences supporting the club and what the club has meant to me over the years and how it has helped me through some particularly challenging times.

From Simmo to Glass, Ibehre to Patrick, this blog has got you covered for all things Carlisle United.
