Here&#8217;s a quick overview of some events that happened in the North East&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-eabb02bb185ab906de6eedc622e7ce5f wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#ffffff\" class=\"has-inline-color has-pale-cyan-blue-color\">&#8216;<\/mark><a href=\"https:\/\/www.selfcareforum.org\/events\/self-care-week\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:#ffffff\" class=\"has-inline-color has-pale-cyan-blue-color\">Self Care Week<\/mark><\/a><\/strong><mark style=\"background-color:#ffffff\" class=\"has-inline-color has-pale-cyan-blue-color\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.selfcareforum.org\/events\/self-care-week\/\">&#8216;<\/a><\/mark> is an annual awareness week that aims to encourage self-care across communities, families, and generations. Established in 2011 by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.selfcareforum.org\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:#ffffff\" class=\"has-inline-color has-pale-cyan-blue-color\"><strong>Self Care Forum<\/strong><\/mark><\/a>, it&#8217;s a week that brings together people of all ages and backgrounds over a collective interest in personal health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0caa4eb95d213c067a2a3578eee3fe43 wp-block-paragraph\">Last year, during Self Care Week, about 800 organisations worked together to empower and inform audiences of millions across the UK. 2023 was set to see even larger figures&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f888d43f45e629ea3e4cac37dec3ff51 wp-block-paragraph\">This year&#8217;s theme was &#8216;Mind and Body&#8217;, highlighting the links between our mental and physical health. Organisations discussed topics ranging from nutrition and exercise to positive lifestyle choices and general mental\/physical well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-dc8fa3f956ae3d84a64229fbe54199dd wp-block-paragraph\">In the North East, various organizations and charities embraced &#8216;Self-Care Week&#8217;. On November 13th, &#8216;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/campaigns.southtyneside.gov.uk\/a-better-u\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:#ffffff\" class=\"has-inline-color has-pale-cyan-blue-color\">A Better U<\/mark><\/a><\/strong>,&#8217; a community-led well-being organization based in South Tyneside, hosted a free drop-in coffee morning at Cleadon Park Library. They said, <em>&#8220;There were loads of different organisations in attendance offering information on local services. We were also treated to some delicious broccoli and Stilton soup as well as a taster session of seated yoga.&#8221; <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2a7dee1580f74417340717f7761c7311 wp-block-paragraph\">Other attendees included the Facilitator Team of the &#8216;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/YourVoiceCountsCommunity\"><mark style=\"background-color:#ffffff\" class=\"has-inline-color has-pale-cyan-blue-color\">Your Voice Counts<\/mark><\/a><\/strong>&#8216; charity, which helps individuals with learning difficulties look after their mental health and well-being. Relating to this year&#8217;s theme of &#8216;Mind &amp; Body&#8217;, local healthcare professionals have emphasised the importance of maintaining a healthy daily routine in order to look after mental and physical health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-8b77011bc5d7c4d99ebce530f1ec52ff\"><blockquote><p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/north-east-yorkshire\/2023\/11\/13\/invest-in-your-future-health-this-self-care-week-urges-nhs-in-north-east-and-yorkshire\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:#ffffff\" class=\"has-inline-color has-pale-cyan-blue-color\"><strong>\u201cSelf Care Week is an opportunity to recognise the benefits that simple activities like getting out for a walk, taking an exercise class or gardening for example can bring in maintaining our wellbeing and keeping us active.&#8221;<\/strong><\/mark><\/a><\/em><\/p><cite>Dr Jonathan Slade, GP and Medical Director from County Durham (Quote taken from NHS England Website)<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2debc4b154da14cd5f1d071e73c416dd wp-block-paragraph\">The collaborative efforts witnessed during &#8216;Self-Care Week&#8217; in the North East this year have highlighted a collective commitment to mental health, wellbeing and a general sense of community.
