On the 4th November 2024, it was announced that university tuition fees would rise in England, increasing from \u00a39,250 to \u00a39,535 at the beginning of the next academic year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This change is going to impact students beginning their studies in September 2025, however, it does not necessarily mean that it will affect current students as some universities have contracts in place to protect students from tuition fee increases whilst they are in the middle of their studies. Newcastle University have not yet confirmed whether their tuition fees are set to increase, however, they will announce the 25\/26 tuition fees in December 2024<\/a>. They have told students to expect rises in line with inflation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is the first time in 8 years that there has been a change in the cost of university due to a maximum fee freeze put in place in 2017, and the government has said that this is linked to the rise of inflation. This sparked reactions from different political parties, with the Conservatives saying that student will “suffer” in a time when they “can least afford it”, the Liberal Democrats asking the government not to put up the fees until there has been a full reform of the damaged system, and independent MP Jeremy Corbyn saying that it “is going to drive more people away from university education”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
