Has someone asked the students how they feel about this?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the 4th November 2024, it was announced that university tuition fees would rise in England, increasing from \u00a39,250 to \u00a39,535 at the beginning of the next academic year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This change is going to impact students beginning their studies in September 2025, however, it does not necessarily mean that it will affect current students as some universities have contracts in place to protect students from tuition fee increases whilst they are in the middle of their studies. Newcastle University have not yet confirmed whether their tuition fees are set to increase, however, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/undergraduate\/fees-funding\/tuition-fees\/\">they will announce the 25\/26 tuition fees in December 2024<\/a>. They have told students to expect rises in line with inflation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-36f65c2d wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0;padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50);padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50)\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide are-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-ca2b64f2 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the first time in 8 years that there has been a change in the cost of university due to a maximum fee freeze put in place in 2017, and the government has said that this is linked to the rise of inflation. The maintenance loan has increased by 3.1%, meaning that students living away from home outside of London can expect to see an increase in their maintenance loan from \u00a310,227 to \u00a310,544 after this academic year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/educationhub.blog.gov.uk\/2024\/11\/04\/student-fees-and-maintenance-loan-increase-what-you-need-to-know\/\">The government<\/a> has said that this increase will not affect repayments, and the same system will remain in place, with graduates paying back a percentage of their pay check as long as it is above a certain threshold. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They have stated that their intention with this increase in fees is to further invest into the value of a university education, and to make it easier for universities to overcome financial struggle. They are asking universities to do more to help financially disadvantaged students and accelerate the educational potential of their students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;40% of institutions are predicting a deficit in this academic year alone&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; University regulator: The Office for Students. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department for Education quoted on their website that they are also aiming to gain full transparency with universities about how they are spending their money.
