You\u2019ve just arrived at university and you\u2019re at the fresher\u2019s sports and societies fair. You are surrounded by exciting potential clubs to join only to find out that the sport you want to play could cost you up to \u00a3250. For a lot of students starting university, this is the reality.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sports clubs and societies are a prominent part of university life, with clubs ranging from lacrosse to video game development, orchestra to jiu jitsu, classics to musical theatre. The range of societies offered means it comes as no surprise that a majority of the student population choose to partake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-d89aad35 wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0;padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50);padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50)\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide are-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-47c06fe3 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<p>Newcastle University has over 28,000 students and offer just over 200 student societies and 63 sports clubs to choose from. Typically, sports clubs are more expensive than societies, but the minimum cost for any society, sports included, is \u00a35. This only occurs with the first society payment per year.
