Hi everyone, welcome to Tunes of the Tyne.
My name is Amy. I am a student at Newcastle University, and I study Journalism, Media and Culture.
This website is for my Journalism Practice for Digital Audiences module. The topic I decided to base my project on is the live music scene in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. This is a topic I feel very strongly about as Newcastle is a city that has always been rich with musical talent and has an amazing community which has supported the city’s live music scene on its back for years.
I am obsessed with the adrenaline and enjoyment I experience whenever I am in a crowd at a concert or festival. Growing up only 50 minutes away, I am fortunately incredibly familiar with the electric live music scene here in Newcastle.
Outside of university life, my passion for music remains prominent as I take my own camera to gigs to take photos and later edit and upload them onto social media. I love spending my free time exploring the discographies of artists I have never heard of before and broadening my musical horizons.
As a little girl, I always wanted to be a music artist, but later in life realised I think I would prefer to be behind the scenes instead. But I firmly believe that everyone deserves a try at their greatest passion in life and would love to shed light on upcoming artists to be able to support them. That is why I hope one day to become a journalist in the music field.
I also take part in many extracurriculars at university. I edit for the gaming section of the student-led newspaper, The Courier, I co-host a weekly radio show on Newcastle University’s student radio, and I am the secretary for the Media and Journalism Society.
With this website, I hope to find a like-minded audience who also feel strongly about live music and wish to be kept up to date with any music-related happenings in Newcastle.
