Activism upon Tyne

About Me

Hi everyone!

Welcome to my new blog!

My name is Anezka and I am in my second year at Newcastle University studying Journalism, Media and culture. A little over a year ago, I moved here from Prague, Czech Republic and this is my first time not only living away from my birth country, but also from home. Even as a second-year student, I am still in the process of getting to know the city of Newcastle, as I am sure is the case for many other fellow students.

Since coming here, I have caught myself being curious about the various events that I walk past by so often, and questions like ‘Is this a protest? A charity event? What is it about?’ pop into my head regularly. Gradually, I came to discover that activism thrives in Newcastle, and many of its people passionately participate in various movements and passionately fight for a better future. Despite my interest, I never found the courage to join and participate myself last year, safe for a few picket lines. Being a timid first year who was almost completely new to the world of activism prevented me from getting truly involved. This year, I decided to change that and thoroughly explore the activism community in this city.

This website is here to help anyone who feels like I did in my first year of university and provide a helping hand with navigating in the activism scene in Newcastle, which can initially seem a little intimidating. So, if you’re someone who is eager to stand up for their beliefs but unsure where to start, you’re in the right place. For those already involved, it will come in handy with staying updated. I will be posting about tips, protests, events and other things related to the activism happening in Newcastle upon Tyne.

So follow me on my exciting journey, and if you’re up for it, join me! It is my pleasure to welcome you to Activism upon Tyne!
