About Me

By Anna Hynes

Hello and welcome to my journalism website called Pitchside Passion. My name is Anna Hynes, a 2nd year journalism student at Newcastle University, and an aspiring sports broadcast journalist. I have chosen to create and produce a website on football in hopes to break stereotypes around the sport and make the sport more inclusive to all.

As a lifelong Liverpool supporter, and being a female fan, I have heard one too many times ‘So what shoe size is Messi?’ or ‘What is the name of Xavi’s first daughter?’- and know full well that those asking could not answer themselves. For a matter of fact the answers are size 10 and Asia- fun facts for your next pub quiz :).

But beside the point, I appreciate and recognise that anyone at any age can become interested in football. Therefore, I will break down my news stories and opinion pieces so that all can understand and learn. Whether a new fan wanting to learn about football, or a lifelong fan wanting to discuss current issues in the sport, my journalism website has something for you.

I believe that the way to break these stereotypes is to continue to defy them, and the more people involved in the sport the better. That is why I will interview a wide variety of people for my articles- to allow all voices to be heard. My websites Instagram @pitchside.passion has open DM’s so that all readers can comment and interact, and thus I can gear my articles to what you are wanting to hear and learn about. Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and read this- I hope you stick around and watch my website grow!
