Former railway station and home to famous Barter Books is getting a much needed fix, and this is everything you need to know about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have recently visited Barter Books in Alnwick, you may have seen the scattered books and buckets catching rain from leaky ceilings, from the stormy weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Designed by railway architect William Bell in 1887, the train station is a real historical artifact. With the rise of motorists in the 1920\u2019s, the station slowly became idle to passengers and ultimately shut in 1968. However since being rebuilt in 1975, the attraction has become one of Alnwick\u2019s and Northumberland\u2019s proudest tourist attractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a part of an investment project, Northumberland Estates bought the old station building in 2018 and created a home to many thriving businesses bringing in a lot of tourism. The refurbishment will target the roof and windowscreens to make it weather-proof but it will still aim to keep the buildings history intact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the help of architects and designers, Northumberland Estates, Howard Litchfield made sure to preserve the buildings historical features, thus preserving its beautiful heritage and keeping it a wonderful heritage site for local visitors and tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
