Life Vineyard Church hosts £1 hot meals

Whether or not you are a student, you have probably come across the cost-of-living crisis before. Some people feel affected less, some people must make radical restrictions on their diets. Thus, Life Vineyard Church hosts £1 hot meals for anyone who either struggles with money or just feels alone.

Lunch is served in the venue of Allen Memorial Church every Tuesday and Friday between 12 and 1 PM.

As Mike Sutton, one of the organisers, said:

“It’s just really important at this time to show community, the idea behind it was to invite our community in to use the space, it’s a really nice space, and allow people to have a warm space, to have a warm meal and to feel like they’ve got a high level of dignity and value by the church that we have and, we believe in God, and we believe God loves everyone and that’s the main reason why we wanna do it.”

The meal on Tuesday was pasta with mushrooms and bacon. “We’ve done plies and chips, we’ve done soup, today we’re doing like a bacon and mushroom spaghetti, we’ve had pasta bakes, we’ve had all sorts of different types of meals, a real variety, eggs and bacon rolls, unfortunately not gluten-free,” Mike Sutton added.

However, they can make it allergy-friendly upon request.

If you prefer cooking and want to get cheap ingredients for the rest of your week, you can also try out the Newcastle POP UP Pantry. It is a project, initiated by Life Vineyard Church as well. They run the Pantry from Monday to Friday, each day at one place in Newcastle.

In general, their goal is to make people save some money, reduce food waste, create a place where people can find support and community, and give them the opportunity to come and have a hot meal and just chill out.
