Hello and welcome to my website!
My name is Emma and I’m a second-year Journalism student at Newcastle University.
Our project this semester is to create a website that orbits a specific ‘niche’ that we are passionate about.
My website will cover all things art-based in and around the Newcastle area. I hope to reach all the students and other young people in Newcastle who have a passion and interest in art, whether it’s painting, drawing or even sculpture. This website will aim to keep them informed of the exciting artistic opportunities that are available for them to join and experience locally and on a budget.
I am focussing my project on the arts because I think it is a crucial and important aspect of society which all people should have access to and should be able to freely express themselves and their creativity.
However, I am aware that students can struggle to find the time, space and money to be artistic.
This is why I’ve chosen to focus my project on highlighting the up-to-date opportunities people have around them, which aren’t expensive and can link them to other like-minded people who share similar hobbies and interests.
With this in mind, I plan on focussing my work on the range of artistic opportunities Newcastle has to offer, for example I plan on visiting local exhibitions, interviewing local artists and taking part in the activities the art societies at Newcastle University offer to their students.
I will keep this website up to date with my artistic endeavours around Newcastle, as well as my Twitter account @emma_benton200, so be sure to follow me.
Hopefully my experiences during these adventures will motivate and inspire other unsure students to give Newcastle’s art-scene a try.
