Behind the Screen!

Hello! I’m Erin, the friendly face behind Tyne on Film. I’m currently a second-year student studying Journalism, Media and Culture at Newcastle University. I have chosen to do my university project on cinema news in the North East of England. That’s why I’m here! I’m a lover of all things film and aim to share my adoration with the world through this blog.

I’ve been passionate about cinema for as long as I can remember- ever since I was a little girl watching Scooby Doo on my bright pink Disney princess box TV, I’d spend all day watching my favourite movies on repeat. As I’ve grown older I’ve gained a particular adoration for horror and thriller movies! But I’ll watch just about anything if it’s tastefully shot and has a great soundtrack!

I love writing reviews in my spare time and encouraging others to watch my favourite films. One of which has to be Almost Famous (2000), which is what encouraged me to take journalism! I enjoy collecting physical media, often second-hand from charity shops and local DVD stores. My favourite piece of physical media has to be my director’s cut edition Donnie Darko DVD.

I chose to cover film in the North East of England for my project as the region can often go unrecognised in the industry and I believe it is crucial to highlight these underrepresented areas as there is such a bustling scene of film-makers and movie lovers here in the North East. My aim with this blog is to bring awareness to the beauty of North East film and all the wonderfully creative people involved with it.

In this blog, I’ll be covering film festivals, film reviews, special screenings, short film projects and all film news in the North East.
