By: Grace Bamforth<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Data requested from Newcastle University under FOI rules revealed there have been 59 student household anti-social behaviour (ASB) complaints made in Jesmond this academic year. Several of these investigations and cases are still ongoing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Last year the University imposed \u00a34,300 in fines from individual students found to have committed misconduct, the data showed.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Jonathan Scott, a member of the End ASB in Jesmond Facebook group claims students are the main issue. He said: \u201cIt\u2019s hard to describe what it\u2019s like but the noise is just relentless.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cWe used to cry before we went to bed because we didn\u2019t know whether we were going to get a full night\u2019s sleep. That affects you mentally,\u201d Scott added.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Information requested from Northumbria Police revealed a total of 4,724 anti-social behaviour incidents occurred in Jesmond over the past three years to October 2023.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In Jesmond and Heaton over the past 12 months there have been a total of 1,364 incidents, with ASB the highest crime.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Spagnoli, the member of Jesmond Life and Leisure group said: \u201cThere is a detriment on people. They have to get up to work for the day or take the kids to school whilst the students are partying till four, five in the morning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">He added: \u201cIt\u2019s noise and vomiting in public, broken bottles and glass all over pavements, people urinating in public.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cWe had neighbours from hell. Filmed and edited by: Grace Bamforth<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The latest month\u2019s data of October 2023 from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.police.uk\/pu\/your-area\/northumbria-police\/jesmond-and-heaton\/?tab=crimemap\">Northumbria Police<\/a>&nbsp;showed Jesmond and Heaton have 184 ASB crime reports. Areas which are the worst are HMO concentrated streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Sutcliffe explained: \u201cmy frustration is more at the people making money out of it. It goes down to at least having a conversation and dialogue with students and trying to overcome and have some sort of means of integrating more.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Sutcliffe said this integration involves having street parties, but something must be done in the long term to make a difference with students.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.safenewcastle.org.uk\/anti-social-behaviour\">Safe Newcastle<\/a>&nbsp;states ASB can be several things likely to cause nuisance, annoyance, harassment, alarm, or distress to any member of the public which affects someone\u2019s quality of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5 Tips to being a better student resident in Jesmond:&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be quieter and be more aware of your neighbours around you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have common sense: Introduce yourself to other residents and neighbours around you when moving in.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Think!
