How to dress like a Jesmond Student

18/11/24

Have you ever been strolling down Osborne Road and thought, ‘Wow there’s a certain look to students who live here, how do I dress like that?’. Well look no further, your step-by-step guide is here.

This week I took to the streets (specifically Acorn Road), to find out what the Jesmond massive are actually wearing, and what they think about trends amongst their peers in the area. We got all the fit-checks and trend reports so you don’t have to.

A few facts stood out to me; the skinny scarf is more alive than ever, but has tough competition with the blanket scarf making a huge comeback east of the metro line. If you don’t own any Newcastle or Poly sports merchandise you may as well just go home now, and is anyone doing anything about the astonishing number of men’s bare legs out mid December?

But seriously, sports merch is rife in Jesmond, whether it’s going to the pub or nipping to Local, Canterbury’s will be your best friend and see you through exam season. If rugby kit isn’t your vibe, flared yoga trousers appear to be the top alternative, for the clean-girl 9am warrior.

The overall tone, gathered from Jesmond’s resident students is that they value comfort most of all, sports wear and Birkenstocks are a go-to. And there’s always the option to dress it up if you’re planning a pub crawl down Osbourne Road, comfortable and chic!
