About Me

Interested in local football?

Welcome to Leagues of Our Own, an area dedicated to the intramural football program we have going on here at Newcastle University, and thank you for visiting the page.

I’m Joseph, a second year Journalism, Media and Culture student here at Newcastle University, and have been obsessed with everything football for the large majority of my life. I am a dedicated season ticket holder at Newcastle United football club, alongside playing grassroots football since I was 7 years old, and currently play in the intramural Saturday 11-a-side league every weekend.

Growing up here, football has always been such a huge part of this city, with Newcastle United now playing at the highest standard and St James’ Park still dominating the city skyline under new ownership, playing host to superstar players like new team captain Bruno Guimaraes and Swedish striker Alexander Isak.

They say football is the beautiful game, and I think the communities and joy the sport brings at all levels for people of different backgrounds is evident in Newcastle, and here at the University is no exception.

I want to share light on some of the brilliant teams, individuals and competitions we have within intramural football, as well as sharing our views, as players, on the workings of the sport and how this has shaped our university lives.

I plan to speak to a range of people involved in the intramural scene to bring out new and up to date information as the season progresses, as well as exploring things like the standard of performance in different leagues, as well as covering any big match-ups you won’t want to miss.

So, if you have an interest in what the intramural scene at Newcastle University has on offer for local football, be sure stay tuned to the page and drop a comment if there’s anything you think I should cover!
