Spooky season is over and I am exhausted. Freshers me would be ashamed of myself for the poor performance this last week, but I figured I would tell you all about it anyway in case of the slim chance that someone wants to take inspiration from this 2nd year who can barely hack a night\u00a0out\u00a0on the toon anymore.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monday<\/strong> <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Monday, we started out strong dressed as a witch on the Media and Journalism Society<\/a> pub crawl, stopping at Luther\u2019s<\/a>, WonderBar<\/a> and The Dog and Parrot<\/a> before promptly departing when everyone else left to go to Tropiween<\/a> because I couldn\u2019t afford a \u00a315 ticket.  <\/p>\n\n\n

I am told however that it was a very good night and is highly recommended amongst attendees of the event, however \u00a315 is insane and I refuse to pay that much for a club ticket.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The good thing about Halloween in Newcastle, however, is that it lasts all week so places like The Dog and Parrot were still busy enough to enjoy the night without having to fork out to have fun.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuesday<\/strong> <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Tuesday night rolled around and I did manage to make it to the club this time! Decked out in Halloween costume number two (a very half arsed alien)\u00a0the route was Luther\u2019s, Tropicana<\/a> (which again is normally dead on a Tuesday but since it was Halloween was another good\u00a0(and\u00a0free!)\u00a0option) and finally The Cut<\/a> for Blur Tuesdays<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And what\u2019s not to like about The Cut? \u00a33 entry and bad 2000s tunes? It\u2019s worth it in my books.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday<\/strong> <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday was spent doing one of my favourite activities: walking around Fenwick<\/a> and looking at things I can\u2019t afford, because it\u2019s good to have goals, you know? And my goal is to be able to buy the ridiculously expensive crisps and chocolate in the Fenwick\u2019s food hall. But until then, it\u2019s nice to be able to look.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One may assume that Wednesday night would be for sports night, but they would be wrong. Wednesday night is for Celebrity Traitors.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0good to have a show that you watch with your house or flat, something on once\u00a0or twice\u00a0a week that you can\u00a0all gather around\u00a0for\u00a0and the obvious current choice is\u00a0The Celebrity Traitors.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thursday<\/strong> <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Thursday was a big day, the day that all university students look forward to. A family visit. And yes, while it is nice to see the family, we all know the big upside of having them there: so that they can buy us a meal.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And I always take my family to Portofino<\/a>. Situated at the bottom of Grey Street, Portofino is a beautiful little Italian restaurant that everyone\u2019s parents are sure to love the ambience of.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s\u00a0got tall ceilings, tiled walls and even a homely\u00a0fireplace:\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0like siting in\u00a0someone\u2019s\u00a0living room.\u00a0Plus,\u00a0the walk\u00a0there is\u00a0a\u00a0great way\u00a0to show them the city, past monument and down the beautiful buildings on Grey Street.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

We finished the evening in the Grey Owl<\/a> for a couple of cocktails, but at a minimum \u00a310 price point, it may be one to save for when someone else is paying.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday<\/strong> <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Halloween on Friday night drew me to a drastic conclusion: clubbing on Halloween SUCKS. Decked out as a classic cowboy, scouring the streets of Newcastle for a club that doesn\u2019t charge for entry on Halloween is by far the lamest way to spend the evening.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If I can make one recommendation about Halloween\u00a0it would be to\u00a0just have a party. The first half of the evening was spent at\u00a0a\u00a0friend\u2019s\u00a0house,\u00a0and it was great! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drinks were cheaper, I\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0have to pay to go, I knew I was going to like the music\u00a0AND I could talk to other people. Facts that have never once been true about a Halloween club night.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening quickly went downhill went we\u00a0departed\u00a0for the town, however.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once again, we had not purchased club tickets, mainly because we forgot about them until the week before and by the time we remembered, everywhere was sold out or at least \u00a315 (yet again).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So,\u00a0we took to the town with no\u00a0plan,\u00a0and, of course,\u00a0the queues were a mile\u00a0long. Even the clubs which were ticketed had queues snaking around the corner. In situations like this, there is only one thing to do: go for a kebab.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everyone has their favourite kebab shop, everyone thinks that theirs is the best. But I know the best. Shawarma\u00a0House on Percy Street is the best kebab shop in Newcastle, and I refuse to accept anything else. \u00a34.50 for a kebab? Yes please. Fresh salad, hummus, jalapenos \u2013\u00a0it’s\u00a0all part of the experience\u00a0\u2013 10\/10 cannot recommend enough.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Weekend<\/strong>  <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

And of course, the weekend was spent recovering, watching the first Christmas film of the season (Love Actually \u2013 obviously) and trying the new World Tour Menu Heist menu from McDonalds<\/a> (garlic and black pepper chicken nuggets are 10\/10)\u00a0before setting off home for reading week.\u00a0\u00a0
