Sam Fender (featuring. Elton John) – ‘Talk To You’ Review

In the wake of his hometown Mercury Prize win for his third album ‘People Watching’, North Shields born Sam Fender released the next of his tracks for the upcoming deluxe edition of the award-winning album.

‘Talk to You’ offers up a slower mulling over a ruined relationship, with Fender’s classic personal lyricism being accompanied by piano-led instrumentation, played by none other than legendary British musician Elton John.

Whilst the song doesn’t offer anything far out of Fender’s wheelhouse, his storytelling remains captivating, as he sings about a lover that he has cheated on and is struggling with forgiving himself for these actions.

Fender’s longing to simply ‘talk with my best friend’, believing he doesn’t deserve any sort of second chance, but wanting to just share the love and pain with a person that he holds such an emotional connection with, runs like a painfully honest and relatable depiction.

The backing vocals from fellow Northerner Brooke Bentham add a gorgeous accompaniment near the end of the track, which is also embellished by some classic Fender guitar and saxophone.

Ahead of the upcoming deluxe album, ‘Talk to You’ is certainly a worthwhile addition to Fender’s growing discography.
