
Art and women – those words are marked and stand together since the first portraits were presented to the world. In general opinion it might seems that women are represented through their artistic skills very well, but in context with the inclusion and asking if the equality in the industry itself is reached, there might be a different story.
According to Women Artists Market Report 2024 and data provided by National Museum of Women In the Arts from the U.S., the numbers of working artists and their fair representation are still not reflecting the equality oppose to male colleagues.
To see how exactly the North East region struggle or not with this problematics, I decided to visit Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and had a chance to speak with its director Sarah Munro and the photographer Joanne Coates.
