From the 1950s to the late 1980s, as many as 215,000 unmarried mothers in the UK were forced to give up their babies for adoption, according to the campaign group Movement for An Adoption Apology.<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over 70 years later, in 2022, an inquiry by Parliament\u2019s Joint Committee on Human Rights<\/a> found the state ultimately responsible and urged a formal apology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
