Welcome to Tasy Tyne! A Newcastle-based food news site brought to you by me, Olivia Longworth. Currently 20 years old and studying journalism, media and cultural studies at Newcastle University I have created this platform to keep you, my audience, up to date on the latest food news in Newcastle city centre.
My love for food and interest in journalism have intertwined to create this platform to share vibrant food news stories from the very heart of the Northeast. Moving to Newcastle from Bolton last year has enabled me to experience a whole new world of eateries and culinary delights, whether it’s the bustling Grainger market or the swanky restaurants along the quayside. This website will provide reviews, interviews, listicles and reports on Newcastle’s food scene.
As a student, I am very understanding of the importance of quick, affordable and delicious food options. Therefore, Tasty Tyne will also place a large emphasis on budget-friendly eateries and creative dining-at-home options. Furthermore, my news site is aware and strives to shed light on the consequences of the cost of living crisis, particularly on small independent food businesses. I aim to explore how the crisis has not only altered our ability to dine out but transformed our at-home meal cooking habits.
Olivia’s Food Fact File
Favourite Food Dish: Seafood Paella- Seafood is my absolute favourite, and even better when fresh from the harbour on a Spanish coastline!
Favourite Cuisine: Italian Food- Throughout my life, Italian cuisine has always dominated my family meals, from pasta to bruschetta- the more carbs the better!
Favourite Takeaway: Chinese- For me, there’s nothing compares to chicken chow mein and duck spring rolls to cure my hangover blues.
Signature Dish to Cook: Chicken Quesadillas- As a student, there’s nothing better than a quick, easy but undoubtedly delicious meal to cook after a long day at university.
Favourite Dessert: Sticky Toffee Pudding- A British Classic. In my opinion, you can never go wrong with this dessert and paired with some double cream it will always win me over.
