Across the dance world, performers continue to face pressure over weight and appearance, raising questions about how body image affects their health and confidence. This ongoing challenge raises the question of how the dance world helps or does not help dancers feel good about their bodies.

Research shows over 75% of dancers feel pressured to lose weight, often driven by mirror comparisons, tight costumes, and casting decisions tied to body size.
I spoke with choreographer Gillie Kleiman, who reflects on the industry’s problems, and dancers Paulina Sikora and Emily Marshall, who share personal stories of struggle and rebuilding confidence.
