In an uncertain economic climate, most graduates are facing unprecedented job-seeking difficulties. Currently, competition among graduates has reached a high level, and international graduates face multiple challenges, such as visa policies and language challenges. These factors prevent graduates from starting their careers. The graduate employment in the North East, especially in Newcastle, remains at the lower end of the national scale.
But hope is not lost. More technology and science startups appear in Newcastle. Newcastle is building an emerging industry ecosystem for the future. So, there are more job vacancies opportunities in the region.
I speak to two frontline experts — Laura Greaves, Information Analyst at Prospects Luminate, and George Theodorou, Careers Advisor at Newcastle University Careers Service — to explore the opportunities that innovative startups in fields such as technology, life sciences and renewable energy can offer the next generation of graduates.
