Hi! I’m Katy, a stage 2 journalism student at Newcastle University. This year I was assigned to make a website covering a niche as part of one of my modules. I was stuck for a long time trying to figure out what website I wanted to make, what I would find interesting or helpful if I was the one reading it, and eventually I settled on this: the ultimate guide to Newcastle for all Newcastle University students.
One thing I really could have benefited from in my first year of university was a Bible of all the best places to go and the best things to try. I always felt like everyone else knew everything about the city and I was the only one who didn’t have a clue about it; they knew the best clubs and the worst clubs, the nicest pizza in town or where to buy the best homeware, what time the local shop was open until or where to go on a long walk. And me? I had no idea.
I figured that I would make this website to help people who feel the same as I did, who have no idea what they’re doing in this city but would like to impress their new friends by pretending that they do.
Hopefully by the time I hand this assignment in, I will have provided a bit of inspiration to a few readers on what makes Newcastle so great, and the best places to go to maximise your student experience here. And who knows? Hopefully I’ll even get a bit of inspiration for myself and discover some new things about this city and the student life it has to offer during the process.
