About Me

Hi, I’m Ameya Edvankar

I’m a journalist, currently completing my MA in International Multimedia Journalism at Newcastle University, United Kingdom. Before this, I spent eight years as an actor and media professional in India.

The Journalist

The camera has always been where I’m most at home. Now I use it to report. This is where my stories live.

I report, film and produce multimedia stories that matter to me. All of it my own work, start to finish. My reporting happens on the ground. I go to the place, I ask the question in person, and I do it on camera.

My earlier journalism from my time at Newcastle University lives at reportingnewcastle.wordpress.com and ameyaedvankar.wordpress.com.

The Project

This is Halfway Around the World, also my final project for my Journalism Masters. It is reported across two cities, Newcastle and Mumbai, and it follows people who are living in both at once. Visas, healthcare, food, student life, community, and everything that comes with building a life somewhere that is not the place you grew up in. Told the way it is actually lived, not the way it gets argued about.

Full project brief on the About the Project page.

The Journey

Before coming to journalism, I spent eight years as an actor.

From prime time television shows to international advertising campaigns, playing the protagonist for brands including Vicks, Perk, Snickers and HP, to starring in promotional campaigns for Game of Thrones. From web shows to short films. I have done it all.

Complete acting portfolio at linktr.ee/ameyaedvankar. I’m also a mechanical engineer. Journalist, actor, engineer. It sounds like three different people. It is really one, following the same instinct every time.

I hope you like this page and the stories written here, and that you keep coming back for more.
